Anna Chan Chennault (Chen Xiangmei)
Group Founder: Anna Chan Chennault (Chen Xiangmei) is a prominent Chinese-American leader, social activist, and Chairperson of the Council on International Cooperation with the United States. As the first Chinese-American woman to serve in the White House, she held key positions including Chairperson of the Council on International Cooperation with the United States, Vice Chairperson of the White House Council on Foreign Relations, and National Chairperson of the Republican Minority Caucus. Her leadership earned the trust of multiple U.S. presidents, from Kennedy to Clinton.
Ms.Chen Xiangmei made outstanding contributions to promoting Sino-US relations: she played an active role in major events such as President Nixon's visit to China and the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States. When she visited China as a special envoy of President Reagan, she was received by Deng Xiaoping. Deng Xiaoping once praised her, saying, "The United States has 100 senators, but there is only one Chen Xiangmei."
Ms.Chen Xiangmei has visited the Chinese mainland and Taiwan on multiple occasions to promote cross-strait exchanges, economic and trade relations, and family visitation openness. She is also deeply concerned about China and public welfare, establishing the Chen Xiangmei Education Fund to support education in impoverished areas of China.
